I am a virtual school Kindergarten teacher with 35 and growing students in my class. I refer to my students as my Superstars and started sending superstar mail. In my superstar mail, I included a message from me and "sticky desk pets" (vinyl animal stickers). They could stick their sticky desk pets on their computer, on their desk, on their water bottle, or put them on a board in their learning space. The cardstock is perfect for the themed notes that I would send and attach the sticky desk pet (vinyl stickers) on. The envelopes and stamps helped them arrive safely to my students all over the state of Florida. My goal is to motivate my students. I am in a unique situation as a virtual Kindergarten teacher because I am not in a brick-and-mortar school. However, sending them their superstar mail and sticky desk pets is a wonderful source of motivation and reward for my students. I even like to customize their superstar mail by having them tell me their favorite ocean animal or favorite wild animal or favorite animal in general. It motivated my students to attend my live class sessions because they could not wait to tell me that their superstar mail had arrived. Seeing the joy that it brought to my students motivates me to continue sending my superstar mail. Virtual learners are unique because you really get to know the whole family! Sometimes siblings sit in on class time sessions. I would even include an extra sticky desk pet for their siblings. This meant a lot to the families and created a wonderful repertoire with my families. This is especially important in the virtual setting as the parents are their Learning Coaches. The impact that superstar mail has made is priceless. Thank you for helping!
