Help me give my students the opportunity to see themselves as a "part" of history and not "apart" from history.

My Students
Teaching 8th graders can be an interesting time in their learning cycle. They are eager to move up to the next levels (in high school), yet they still desire to act like children and wish to learn in numerous fun and exciting ways. My desire is to build a culture of learning, in regards to history, that will transcend all levels and continue on with them as they pursue their dreams.
There are around 20 students in each of my classes, each learning history in their own way.
Of these students, several are always wanting to learn more of history, of the people, the time period. This is what motivates me to dig deeper, to be a better, more thorough teacher.
I love the fact that other students, that I do not teach, are always seeking and desiring to know what is being discussed in my classroom. To me, this demonstrates that a culture of historical learning exists.
My Project
I would love to have a video area with an iPad, green screen, lighting, microphone, etc., and use it to visually place students into "history". I already have space available in my classroom. This would allow students the opportunity to participate in different virtual activities. To physically be placed into the historical topic that we are discussing. History lends itself perfectly with this technology and learning culture.
Students can be on a civil war battlefield, in the room of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, or on a ship discovering new worlds.
Furthermore, I could use this equipment to create virtual videos for pandemic impacted days. I feel this would tremendously influence the students as they would see themselves as a "part" of history and not "apart" from history.
