Help us learn how to read and write in a more meaningful way!
I teach Kindergarten in a school where almost all of my students have military parents. Also, almost half of our student population qualifies for free and reduced lunch, which means they come from economically disadvantaged families.
Kindergarten is much more like First Grade used to be, so we are learning to read and write independently at an earlier age! This is a big task for five and six year olds, so we need to make learning to read and write more meaningful and fun.
In order to become authors of our own books, we need a digital camera and photo printer. This equipment would help us write original books that are meaningful to us so that both our writing and reading skills can be improved. We can also publish the books we make on our class website so that students with deployed parents can stay connected over the miles.
Your support of this project would help ensure that my students stay motivated to read and write as they become authors of their very own picture books. I know that using these materials will help my students gain confidence as new readers and writers.
More than half of students from low‑income households
