My Students
I teach 7th and 8th grade, pull-out support English classes. Both of the groups are hardworking students who sometimes struggle with independent reading. They usually struggle to find materials they are interested in and can read because they are generally reading 2 to 3 grade levels below their current grade. Anything you can donate to this project will help to put resources into the hands of students.
My Project
These are supplies that the students will come into the room asking for and I usually have to say I am sorry I do not have that. The students then become very upset which starts the class off on a bad note. I want to be able to say yes, I have that item, and allow the students to start class off an the right foot. When the students start the class off on the right foot and feel good they will have a higher chance to want to learn. I want them to have the best classroom where they want to be and want to learn.
The students will be able to use the fidget toys to help calm them down if they are struggling to focus during class.
A lot of the time, the students are spending more time focused on the room not smelling good in their opinion that the first transitional time is spent trying to get them over the fact they think the room smells bad. Now I can just take some spray or have the wall plug in and going and this will take away from the constant do you have any spray questions. Also, the students try to get out of class to go get bandaids from the nurse. Having a stack of them on hand will limit the out of the room time they spend going to the nurse for supplies. The last thing that will help the students feel more comfortable in the class is the ability to use the provided lotion instead of trying to find some they left in their lockers or another teacher’s classroom. These supplies will make a more welcoming classroom for my students that they are not trying to leave which will increase their learning.
