My Project
Not many enjoy testing, but it's the same rigamarole every May: children across the country prepare for the mandatory mental abuse of state testing for ELA, Math, and Science (for our 8th graders). As teachers and school officials, we understand the necessary evil of these tests as data collection points to help assess teaching strategies and school performance as compared to other schools and districts around the state and country.
For our students, these mandatory state tests are not much more than an irrelevant and torturous impediment in their social school lives or a plunge into the depths of a testing-anxiety-induced panic attack.
Help make this testing week a little more sweet for my middle schoolers this year. My Leadership class will be making little motivational cards to send out to testing classes each day with a little treat--starbursts, lifesavers, extra chewing gum, Werther's, and possibly more.
