My students are inquisitive and eager to learn 2nd graders. A typical day includes lots of exciting instruction in reading and writing, but not enough in science. I would like this project to spark a great interest in science and scientific study for my students.
Students at my school are from low income families and will greatly benefit from any extra resources that I can provide for them.
They love hands on activities that they can use to learn more about the world around them and to help them to become "smarter together."
My Project
My students will use the chicken Incubation kit and Fertile Chick Egg pack to observe the development of live fertile chicken eggs. They will use the Chick Life Cycle Exploration set to study and see each stage as the live eggs develop. My students will answer the question, "How long does it take for a chicken to hatch?" They will observe, record observations and learn more about the life cycles of chickens and of other living things. They will also learn to care for the chicks once they are hatched and will learn responsibility as they care for them. We'll read Life Cycles Library Books to learn about animal life cycles.
Donations to this project will give my students a learning opportunity that they cannot get in the urban setting in which they live.
They will be able to document the development and growth of the chicks with the incubator. This exposure to scientific study will give them a window into the world of science and how interesting science can be. This exposure will also make them wonder and help them to realize that they can use these scientific methods to discover more about many things in life.
