Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

If you've ever seen an interactive whiteboard, you know that you must have some sort of projector to use it. Several of our classrooms at school have Smartboards -- mounted right in the middle of the chalkboard -- with no working LCD projector!

This means our really-cool technology (the Smartboard) along with our old-fashioned technology (the chalkboard) is completely useless.

In a geometry class where students are expected to pass the New York State Regents Exams, a Smartboard is an invaluable tool for understanding. The ability to engage students, to quickly move through material, and to be able to record student work with the click of a button is something that chalk simply cannot do! Our school is an Early College Initiative school and my students work hard -- they have to in order to begin taking college classes in high school. And a projector will make their experience with geometry a richer, deeper one.

My Project

Students will be able to visualize geometric concepts much better with the help of an LCD projector. Any of you who have attempted to draw a perfect circle know what I mean! The projector makes that task a piece of cake, so instead of fighting with some chalk to create a diagram while students spend precious class time waiting, it's already prepared on a slide that we can examine immediately. We then can record the work we do on it, and go back to it later that class to review, or even later in the year! That's something that no chalkboard can do.

Students will get so much more out of their geometry class this year with a projector.

We will get through more material, we will be able to look at complicated problems quickly, and we will reach more students, simply because it's way cooler to play with a Smartboard than a piece of chalk! Please consider helping some students out that may lack technology that others have access to, but not the ambition to succeed in high school and college!
