This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our neighborhood school is a fine arts magnet offering visual art, band, choir, dance, drama and technology on a rotation for 50 minutes a day. The students are ages 3 through 11 or grades Pre K through 5th.
My students live in the inner city surrounded by poverty and need.
They are young and successful in school; receiving Distinguished in Science for the 2013 - 2014 school year. They value their education, but need help. The statistics are against them, poverty, a lack of English skills, and parents who need to work long hours to just provide the basics; all struggling to reach the "American Dream".
Their attitude and determination tell me that my students won't give up, but will continue to work hard and achieve with your help. If a picture tells a 1000 words then an interactive white board will paint them a masterpiece of learning!
My Project
The students in my class receive musical training in voice and instrumental music. The interactive white board will help us learn music in an advanced method. Reading music notation, listening and watching live performances, participating through hand held devices, and receiving more intensive instruction from masters on their instruments of choice will be just a few of the activities now available with these boards.
Our band scored I - II - II at contest last year.
We would like to begin planning a national or state trip and will use the board to direct fund raising for each student with visual graphs and charts! We also send between 25 - 40 students each year to solo and ensemble contest. The ability to film and replay their contest "look" for each student will increase the amount of first places we receive.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
