My students need interactive games to be used on our smartboard in order to reinforce skills and build capacity for team relationships.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Dunlop's classroom raised $256
This project is fully funded
My Students
My class is an integrated co-teaching class with special education students of varying needs. Learning is a constant struggle for them and rarely fun.
We are part of an elementary school located in a low-income neighborhood with an ethnically diverse population, many of whom are first-generation English language learners.
Half of the students in my class are full-time special education students, with a variety of learning challenges: visual impairment, speech/language processing difficulties, learning disabled, emotional problems.
My Project
For most of my students, the challenges of acquiring and maintaining knowledge and concepts can be overwhelming. Rote paper-and-pencil review is tedious for them. However, when we play interactive games on the smartboard, they are engaged and excited! The smartboard removes so many of their barriers: large print for vision difficulties, vivid illustration for English language learners, text read aloud for language deficient students. Playing games also helps build a sense of community and reinforces concepts such as turn taking and following rules that some children find challenging.
The students love using the smartboard!
It builds technological skills, as well as reinforces academic concepts and team behavior. We have a few games, but they will be so excited to have new games to play. Another advantage to educational software is that it can be used over several years and pieces are never lost like board games!
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
