This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember what it was like to be in the classroom? Every student sitting quietly as the teacher models a certain skill. My students need to engage more in every lesson. An interactive whiteboard is the answer as it will promote engagement and interest.

My students are bilingual second grade students.

They come from low-income homes and attend a Chicago Public School. My students come from homes that lack many of the tools - especially technological tools - that students should use to enhance their knowledge. In a fast-moving society that is technologically based, students need to become aware of utilizing these tools especially within the classroom. The fact that students lack these tools is due to the fact that in some situations families cannot afford to purchase tools such as a computer. Also, my students have a variety of multiple intelligences. Some students are hands-on learners while other students are visual learners. In order to accommodate their learning needs, students need a stimuli that will engage them within any lesson. Without this stimuli, a student's learning will be deterred because of a lack of interaction as well as technology within the classroom.

My Project

An interactive whiteboard will bring about interactive learning within the classroom. For example, for visual learners students will be able to comprehend a lesson due to the fact that they are seeing visual representations of the lesson. This can include lessons such as solving two-digit addition and subtraction, understanding life cycles, editing and proofreading writing, etc. The use of an interactive whiteboard can stimulate a student's curiosity and therefore promote engagement. We will also be able to use websites such as BrainPop Jr. with this interactive whiteboard. Students will be able to manipulate activities within this website such as matching games, drawing diagrams, and online quizzes based on various topics. They will be able to watch clips of real-life topics such as a plant's life cycle. Students will not only learn how to use technology but will be able to expand their minds in the process as well as make learning fun and engaging.

Imagine students raising their hands in great anticipation of the lesson and being a part of the lesson.

An interactive whiteboard will bring the following to the classroom: 1) Motivating students to participate; 2) Meeting the needs of students with multiple intelligences; 3) Active engagement in any lesson. The possibilities are endless. Our children are our future, and they deserve a quality education. These are tomorrow's leaders. . . SMARTBOARD Makes Smart Kids!
