SMART iQs Leads to Bright Futures

My Students

I teach at a model school that incorporates performing arts, visual arts, coding, computer science, and STEM within the curriculum. Our urban school receives federal funding for programs that provide free breakfast and lunch for every student, and Title I services to economically disadvantaged boys and girls.

We are a class which includes military families, gifted/talented students, ESL/ELL students, inclusion/special education students, and the tech savvy.

My students are energetic and very busy within the classroom. Even with parental support, I would love to say that my students have everything that they need to be successful. But they don't. We are preparing students for college, the workforce, and the world beyond, so they can have a better life.

My Project

In 2017, I want to continue to create flexible, learning environments for our students. In my class, I want to change every corner, surface, and wall into a hands-on, out-of-the-box learning experience. I am requesting a SMART Kapp IQ Interactive Board that would replace three devices (computer, whiteboard, and projector) with one. The SMART Kapp will complement our whole-class, small group, and individual instruction. Students will be able to take charge of their own learning and help others to grow and discover new concepts and content at their own pace. Sometimes we move so fast that we don't give every student the chance to process and allow new discoveries to take place. The SMART Kapp will integrate with devices that students are currently using, while giving more access to instruction inside and outside of the classroom.

A promise of a better future is something that every child should have.

Life changes every second that we are here. We must continue on the path and journey of educating children, who are our shining lights. The request of a SMART Kapp IQ Board will add one-of-a-kind learning experiences for our students. We need to create educational experiences that will reach every child and help them to achieve their personal goals to become global, problem solvers that will create a safer world for all.
