My Students
Hi, I'm a lower elementary, Montessori-trained teacher within a public school. My students are curious, enthusiastic, and eager to learn. Many of them come from low income homes, but this doesn't stop them from coming to school with smiles on their faces. I am proud to be a part of an urban school district that offers Montessori education as an option to all families. It is amazing to see how my students can progress academically through this hands-on approach to learning.
My Project
Our school is incredibly lucky to have an amazing art teacher, and my students love going to art class each week. I am interested in broadening their exposure to art and art history in my own classroom. My intent is to introduce one artist each month. I will read a book about their life and add additional books about that artist to my classroom library for those students who want to read more. I will also rotate Montessori 3 part cards of famous artists and paintings on my art shelf as well as provide an opportunity for my students to create something inspired by each artist.
For this project, I have selected books about a diverse group of artists, both men and women, from around the world so we can learn and explore a wide variety of histories and cultures.
I also selected several "how to draw" books from a series that my students really like. Lastly, I added a few storage boxes to help me organize the lesson materials.
