Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach high school English in California. Almost 90% of our students come from low-income households and qualify for free lunch.

I really believe that small things make a big difference in a classroom. For instance, having no tissues when you have a cold is a frustrating experience. The other day, we ran out of tissues in class, and I had to send a student to the restroom to retrieve a stack of rough, hard brown paper towels so those in need of tissue would have something to blow their noses on.

Now, I know this may seem like a small conflict in comparison to the multitude of needs that exist in classrooms across the country. But every time I run out of tissues, or a student has to suffer the discomfort of blowing one's nose into a brown paper towel, is an instructional minute lost. It also lowers morale to be ill or suffering from allergies and have to use a paper towel that is even rougher than a newspaper. That is why I would like some soft tissues for my classroom. This is a basic necessity and we really need it. The tissue that is provided at schools is not soft or plentiful, and a donation of soft tissues would raise morale as well as lower the amount of instructional time lost in the classroom. I would also like anti-bacterial gel for my classroom, in the hopes of decreasing the number of illnesses among my students. Currently, I am providing this for my students as much as possible, but it would so nice to have it available to my students on a regular basis.

Your donation will make it possible for my students to maximize their learning. Providing soft tissues and antibacterial gel would make my classroom homier, and a place where students are more likely to want to return to and learn.
