it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I have the pleasure of seeing every student once a week in the library. I have gotten to learn a lot about most of the kids here. Some of the students are so intimidated by reading and coming to the library because of their low reading levels. Unfortunately they lost a lot from COVID-19 because it quite literally stole a year and a half of their in person learning. Most of these students don't have books at home and no one at home to help them read or even someone at home who can read to them. I have been working really hard to create an environment that every reading level is comfortable coming in to. I have taught strong readers that it's OK for their peers to still be struggling. And I have taught struggling readers that their reading level is not a bad thing. I'm pushing compassion in my library because we all lost so much due to COVID-19. These supplies will help build our library and fill it with books from this century. I believe having books that are more appealing to the students will help them get excited to read more.
