Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are the best in the city! They are curious and thoughtful and love exploring new ideas. They are self-motivated and are always ready to discover new things. My students are articulate and have amazing conversations in class.
I teach at a Title I school in New York where most of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Despite the hardships they face at home, my students are always eager to learn about the world they live in. They amaze me daily.
My Project
A part of teaching using a whole approach includes carving out time in the day for small group instruction. This is time where I am able to pull groups of students with similar reading or math goals. I use this time to review concepts they still have difficulty with, or to introduce new concepts before a lesson to provide background. Because time in school is fleeting, every moment counts.
It is important to be extremely organized with time, space, and materials.
The materials I am asking for will help keep me and the students on track during this short, but important part of the day.
The large timer will be used by all of us to make sure we are aware of the time so that we may use it wisely. The magnetic board and chart paper are a great way for me to have the small group lessons ready and mobile. This way I can meet students at their desks rather than have students move around. The magnetic paper holders are a great place for students to find work and any other materials they need to complete on their own when they are not being seen in a small group.
