My Kindergarten students live in a time where technology is a need in order to prepare them for their future. Having a laptop at a center would help promote excitement as they watch the video's we grew up with.
My students are young and very inquisitive.
For most of them this is their first experience in school. Kindergarten is about exploring and learning to do a lot of things they'll need beyond their first year in school. They come from an area where many are being raised in single family homes or even by their grandparents. They all aspire to be the best they can be.
My Project
I am requesting a laptop to use in my small groups during Reading/ Language Arts Block. When we are discussing a letter, I want to pull up a video that will dance, sing, say the letter, the sound and words that begin with that letter. During Math small groups I'd like to do the same thing, but with numbers -remember the number of the day on Sesame Street? All that is available on YouTube and DVD. I believe my students will remember better by interacting and engaging with the songs/activities.
I believe in my heart that having this laptop to use in small groups will help my students become readers sooner and better readers going to first grade and beyond.
A child that is having difficulty would be able to sit one on one with myself or my paraprofessional to assist in the area of difficulty.
