My students need a literacy center, chart paper and manipulatives for math and reading for small groups that will allow them to move objects around to create numeracy and literacy skills.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are part of a diverse culture in a PreK-4 school. Currently, our school represents more than 30 countries, with our refugee population growing from 18% to 34% in less than a year.
Some students have been in a school setting, while others are just experiencing a traditional American school setting for the very first time.
While some students come from rural area, others are from an urban setting with no prior experience with the life cycle of animals.
My Project
My students come from many different countries and ethnic backgrounds. Most are new to the country and have not developed the language acquisition skills needed to write or read. Others have an economic disadvantage that allows for no prior knowledge before school.
Hands-on teaching materials that students can manipulate renders a greater chance of retention for students lacking literacy and numeracy skills due to language barriers.
Using letter tiles to build words and uncover tricky spelling patterns is one key to opening up a world of reading for these students. Being able to touch money, fractions, place value blocks all while building numbers or solve problems is necessary for building math vocabulary numeracy skills.
Using these manipulatives is imperative to teach in small groups for both math and literacy. This ensures the differentiation needed for all students to learn on their level and help push them to meet the rising levels of education today.
