My Students
As a teacher in a Title I district, my students come from several diverse backgrounds. Living in a small town with with only one school district means that my student's socioeconomic backgrounds range from very low income to very high income. This makes it a little more challenging to meet everyone's needs.
I use positive reinforcement in my classroom in order to focus on the good things my students are doing.
Although some of my students may be extremely different from one another, they are able to show respect for each other when they enter our room.
I want school to be a place where every student feels safe and equally valued no matter what their life at home may be like.
I always tell my students that we are a family and we have to care for one another. When I see them forming new relationships with peers, doing the right thing in difficult situations, or even just helping a neighbor out on a difficult math problem, it makes me proud to be their teacher.
My Project
In my 4th grade classroom, small groups are a big part of my day. Throughout a normal day I work with several different groups at my horseshoe table. Unfortunately, my current table is on it's last leg (literally). It's been missing a leg for the last two years, but I was still able to make it work. It's finally starting to give out altogether. I also have some hand-me-down stools that are just about bent beyond repair.
This new table and stools would be used in my classroom everyday, and would really refresh my whole classroom space.
The shape of this new table will make it easy for me to work closely with multiple students at the same time. It's durable design should hold up for many years with many students. The new stools will make for a comfortable and fun seat for my students. This new refreshed space in my classroom will surely make small group time something that my students look forward to.
