Small Group Reading Instruction With Scholastic Storyworks Magazines Part II

My Project

Happy Lunar New Year. J.K. Rowling states, "I do believe something very magical can happen when you read a good book."

I want to inspire children to develop a thirst and a love for books like no other.

Let's inspire children to become lifelong learners and to crave reading Storyworks magazine articles. My class will be using a new reading program called Expeditionary Learning. We are in need of magazine articles that will supplement the curriculum within the interdisciplinary theme of each unit. These articles will be used to tailor instruction to meet the diverse needs of all learners through flexible grouping. It is my goal to maximize student learning to its ultimate limit as the students are exposed to various reading genres such as historical fiction, nonfiction, poetry, biographies, fiction, and more. Storyworks magazine is a very engaging magazine edited by Lauren Tarshis, the author of the I Survived reading series. My students love all of the books by Lauren Tarshis, and this magazine will be a wonderful addition to our classroom. The students will each get a copy of the text, and they will annotate and mark up the text as they code it. Students will be able to stop and jot down questions that they are curious about, and they can investigate answers to their questions.

Storyworks is an amazing magazine that will engage my students and teach them valuable reading comprehension strategies so that they can be successful readers and develop a lifelong love of reading. Students will also be able to write in response to their reading. They will have to analyze texts from multiple sources. Let's fund this unique project today!
