This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember being in English class reading a class novel that you did not like? Well, I have a solution! My students will work in small groups to read a novel that their group selects. All book sets are on the theme of self identity. Students helped select the novels.

My students are high school special education remedial readers.

My students read between a 3rd and 6th grade reading level. My students live in a low income community in Arizona. I work for a large public school that has any where from 2,500-3,300 students per term. Budgets have been cut for the third year in a row and teachers went from a pay freeze to a pay cut this year. Students often state that they are moving because of home foreclosures or loss of jobs in the family. Our community and our school is in great need.

My Project

I am requesting the book sets and books on CD so that I can inspire my students to select books of interest to them and work as a group to complete tasks. I want to instill more independence in my students. I want to encourage more discussion about the books and support students in making connections between the books and their own lives.

This project is based on new research in the area of teaching literature.

I want my students to experience the new trends and benefit from new teaching and learning styles. I need your support to access the materials necessary for this project.
