My Students

I have a classroom that is full of boys and girls who are excited and eager to learn! The students love hands-on activities that challenge their minds, and they love working with their classmates to solve problems. They have great imaginations, love to think outside of the box, and are excited to learn. My students are mostly from the same area, and they have been friends since they started school. Since our school is a charter school, the students are from different parts of the parish as well as different parishes in Louisiana.

My Project

I have asked for various writing, reading, and math activities to use during small group instruction to focus on the individual needs of my students. First grade students are expected to go from reading letters and sounds, to fluently reading over 60 words in a minute. Because of this, we have students who are on different reading and writing levels, and the activities I have requested will focus on strengths and weaknesses of the students.

This project will help my students master various reading, writing, and math skills they need to be successful in the classroom.

I feel that my students are struggling with writing short stories, and the small group writing materials I have requested will help walk students through simple writing prompts and move them into story writing.
