This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a first grade teacher at a school that has 70% English Language Learners. I am always looking for different ways to reach my students. To give them hands-on experiences and create real-world connections is what drives me as a teacher.
My students are fun-loving, curious and very hardworking.
They area always up for a challenge and love to learn new things. In the first grade there are many important skills that students are expected to know by the end of the year. This year is the foundation for reading and writing. Our school is Title 1 where many of the students do not have the same opportunities that other students may have. My goal as a teacher is to help foster their love of learning at an early age.
My Project
I can already promise you that these materials will be well loved in our classroom. My students are always excited when it is time for our small group instruction. In my class we call this time "Centers". It is when I get to have work with students in small groups to review different types of skills and practice our close reading strategies. Students may think that we are just "playing" games, but really they are working on different skills through meaningful tasks and teamwork.
With these hands-on materials, students will be able to practice skills that we are learning.
Students will be excited to learn how to tell time with their new clocks, learn about different reading comprehension skills using the story wands, and coming up with a plan to build using pattern blocks and the marble run set.
