Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a dual language first grade teacher, and many of my students are are new to the U.S. With many newcomers in my class, I need to meet their diverse needs though small-group instruction. I do not currently have a good designated space for this in my classroom and I most often meet with small groups in whatever area is not occupied at the time. A small group instruction table would help us work together in flexible, needs-based groupings. Additionally, my students need to meet their minutes on Spanish literacy and math learning applications on tablets each week in order to grow their Math, Literacy and Spanish Language skills. Parents send in headphones at the beginning of the year, but they often break, and not all families can afford to buy or replace them. New headphones will help them focus on these crucial learning tasks. I am also asking for school supplies that I frequently run out of, such as, dry erase markers and pencils. these materials allow my students to complete their work and make work more engaging. Finally, I am asking for STEAM exploration materials to help my young learners grow creatively through hands-on building activities. Plus-plus blocks and duplo legos will help enrich my classroom environment to support whole child growth.
