My Project

As a new ELA teacher, I’ve quickly discovered the incredible power picture books hold—even for older students. My students are thoughtful, insightful, and full of potential. They’re eager for stories that connect to their lives and open their eyes to new perspectives, but they don’t always engage with traditional texts.

Picture books offer a fresh and effective way to teach complex literary concepts like theme, symbolism, voice, and structure.

They provide visual context, diverse narratives, and a low-stakes way for students to build confidence with reading and analysis. These resources will help me create an inclusive, engaging classroom where all students feel seen, supported, and inspired to think critically. I’m building a library that will serve not just this year’s class, but many more to come.
