Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a Civics teacher, I love when my students realize that they, as 8th graders, have the power to work for the common good! Here in Chicago, we have been welcoming many newcomers from warmer climates, including some new families in our school. My students are concerned that kids like themselves might not have all the things they need to stay warm in our cold winter climate. My students also come from low-income families. They do not often get to be the ones giving out the gifts.
Help my students learn the powerful gift of helping their community!
Your donation will help us get hats and socks and other items to give to these new students. My class will assemble these care packages, and make friendship bracelets for each one. They will research how to get them to families, and then do it! They will learn that caring about their community is an essential action.
