it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a first year, Speech-Language Pathologist, working in an underfunded high-need school, with most students as second language learners.
Motivation is a key component in their everyday learning opportunities.
For my K-5 students, reading is what they love to do. Having a limited number of stories we can read makes learning a struggle at times. Being able to print colorful picture scenes and access online stories will allow us to target answering and asking questions, describing characters and events, sequencing events, making predictions, and retelling a narrative in their own words.
As my middle schoolers are challenged to thrive academically, many of them are struggling in their speech, listening, reading, and writing abilities. Self-confidence is low and engagement is critical! Using visual structures, like graphic organizers, and customized PPT’s help my students to organize their thoughts and analyze a text without feeling overwhelmed. An iPad and accessories will give us access to a variety of grade level passages and annotation abilities to target concepts like identifying context clues, vocabulary acquisition, antonyms/synonyms, and grammar use.
Having access to digital resources during sessions and being able to print out visual aids on a daily basis is crucial for my students to keep them actively engaged.
