My Students

My students are an amazing group of third graders. They are enthusiastic about school and embrace everything we do in class. They love reading, P.E., math, and science. Our school is a kindergarten through eighth grade school located in rural California. It houses 450 students. Our school is surrounded by forests and mountains and has daily visitors such as geese, turkeys, and deer.

My school had a fire on January 26.

I lost my entire classroom to smoke damage. The materials requested in this project are to help my students and I rebuild our classroom and supplies.

My Project

My students need glue, glitter, plastic containers, kinetic sand and Model Magic to create slime.

Making slime has become a popular activity for students.

They are obsessed with the gooey, squishy substance. I am requesting a variety of supplies so students can make slime at school. Students will be provided with a variety of materials to create different types of slime such as regular slime, magnetic slime and glow in the dark slime.

For our Halloween celebration I had a parent who made and provided slime to each of my students. My students loved playing with the substance. I loved the idea of providing a science based activity for our Halloween celebration. I am planning to continue our investigation of making slime to other holidays by providing different items to mix into the slime such as scents, beads, and vibrant colors. This time I would like to extend this exploration and investigation to younger students. This will create a partnership with older and younger students. The older students will be the teachers and will work on public speaking and presentation to teach the younger students how to make their slime.

Since our school is split up into three different grade levels, I would love to have these supplies so my students can have materials to make slime with their younger school mates. Included in this project are containers so the younger students can take their creations home with them.

Students will not only enjoy the tactile satisfaction of manipulating the slime, but they will also study the science concepts of chemistry and forces. Paired with the science study will be investigating art concepts such as color and texture. Students will be celebrating holidays and engaging in science and art projects, all in one project, slime making!
