This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students with special needs come to the resource room for extra support in reading, math, and writing. We only have a small time together so we make every moment count! I work with students in kindergarten, first, and second grade. I want my students to be excited about school!
Many of my students come from families that are considered low socioeconomic status and they are faced with unique challenges daily.
They do not have adequate learning materials or books at home. Most students enter Kindergarten without ever having been read to. The students in my resource classroom are not only disadvantaged economically, but they also have been found eligible for special education services due to a deficit in reading, math, writing, or language skills. Despite these challenges, my kids show up with a smile on their faces and a hunger to learn.
My students are highly motivated to learn about the world but have a lack of exposure. Our school has a wonderful staff with wonderful teachers who try their best to enhance the learning of each individual student. We are an AVID school, which means we believe each and everyone one of our students can and will attend college.
My Project
My students will use the requested boxed book set to enhance reading fluency, decoding, and comprehension. My students have struggled with reading due to reading disabilities. I want my students to find a love for reading. We will use the guided reading books in a small group setting.
My students are constantly moving! Everyday, my students meet in a specified location in the classroom, to introduce the new concepts for the week, and to review past materials. Each student will be assigned a place to sit. When my students are sitting on the rug they will feel like they belong in my classroom. Due to the socioeconomic status of my school/students, by donating to our cause you will be helping me provide a safe, clean space for my students to enjoy. By receiving this new rug, my students will have a fun and colorful place to meet that they can be excited about.
Even though my students are only in my room for a short time, I want my students to feel like they belong in my classroom.
I want them to enjoy coming to school and not only be successful, but also feel successful. With the guided reading books and a rug they will know what to expect when they come into my room and will feel like they are important .
