My students need 30 copies of Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse Five and 1 copy of the audio-book.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Kalick's classroom raised $341

I will be teaching 10th grade English to the AVID cohort, a group of students who are determined to be successful in college. We are a small, urban, Title I public high school in a high-needs community in New York.
In the spring, students will be studying anti-war poetry and persuasive writing. What better text to incorporate than Slaughterhouse Five? The catch, of course, is that we don't have copies in our school's book closet.
With their own books, students can practice annotating and tracing their thinking as they read. They will be expected to annotate and "mark up the text" in both AP courses and in college. Improving these reading skills in the 10th grade will help them develop better arguments in their writing, analyze an author's style and rhetoric, and make reading a more interactive activity (which it should be!).
Help me empower my students by providing materials which will allow them to practice the skills they will need in a college-level course. Enrich our anti-war and persuasive writing unit by giving them access to this classic text.
