My Students
"Coach, I never thought I would be able to play this well!" These were the words a student exclaimed last year when he was able to compete with some of the other better students in the school during lunch time. Witnessing the joy that a 6th grade student experiences from using the tools that he learned during basketball workouts for the first time is thrilling as a teacher. Our school serves students in grades K-8 and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers and a safe learning environment. Our school is comprised of students of all different backgrounds in which some come from a bilingual household. As a result, we are consistently one of the top-performing schools in the city every year. Our goal is to prepare our students for success in high school and college, and our alumni have gone on to schools such as Cincinnati University, Adelphi University, Syracuse University and SUNY Adelphi College.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom, Despite the many challenges they face, I use sports as their outlet from everything else .
My Project
Basketball is an exciting sport requiring teamwork, co-ordination, and athleticism. The growth in popularity of volleyball has led to the establishment of a considerable, competitive environment for teams to take part in. To stay competitive, I need to make sure my teams are equipped properly. Expenses include equipment, team apparel and court-time.
When It comes to playing Basketball it its more to it than the sport itself.
It challenges the mind and most often results in a satisfying experience. When playing basketball, players will need continuous feedback to master the skills and physical ability.
Over the course of the year, the basketball program has grown, its not only a place for improvement in basketball but has been an area for the kids to grow their confidence. The kids not only work hard during the season but are putting in a lot of time in the off-season. Our athletic budget is very small so it is difficult to receive new equipment. It is important that we have enough equipment for every child in the program. To start off the to exemplify the excellence this equipment will bring to our program will start with connected basketball which will allow analytics to the art of shooting through the technology that the ball has which will allow tracking of shooting accuracy, the dribble stick will allow for consistent ball handling practice in which they will use the heavy balls while using the training mask which will enhance cardiovascular ability. I have some equipment that will also enhance eye and hand coordination which will improve focus in the classroom as well. I am thankful to all donors in advance and donors choose for this opportunity.
