This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are interested in the world around them. They are city kids with a keen interest in learning new things. They love to explore, write, build and read. As the ELD teacher for kindergarten and first grade, I spend my time pushing into classrooms to teach English language learners. We are about to go 100% in person and it's going to be tight quarters in our small classrooms.
My students come from impoverished backgrounds, but they also have strong family ties and parents who want the best for them.
Our school is very large and with the latest state budget cuts, our class will be much larger than normal. This won't stop us from becoming a school family looking out for each other and learning everything we can in these first pivotal years of school.
My Project
This project is to work with small groups on skill gaps. Letters, blending, syllables, counting, sounds. There are a variety of games here to play with teacher supervision so students can practice reading and math skills. These products are well made and will stand up to many groups working with them. Also, they make learning more fun. Students will get the chance to practice skills in a new way that steers clear of another busy worksheet. These colorful manipulatives are a joy to practice even when the learning is tough.
