I work with some amazing MID (mildly intellectually disabled ) students. These students have an IQ below 70. These students love to read but unfortunately the school library at school does not have lots of books that are low level high interest for my teens. These students look and act like your everyday teens.
They love to hang out with their friends, read anime, and play video games.
I always explain to them that reading increases your vocabulary, transports you to places you have never been, and broadens your horizons on talk worthy topics. I have also included Legos and coloring books as these items will teach my students about team work and socializing. Students today have gotten away from socializing. Students have gotten away from making friends the old fashion way, instead they meet people online. This will teach the students how to make friends and hold a conversation.
