My Project
My first grade students have never had the privilege of having a certified art teacher. Art supplies are expensive and regular education teachers are trying their best to both teach core content and fit ART in when time allows. I know that my first graders are not given many opportunities to share their creative sides. They love to draw and I would appreciate the chance to provide them each with an individual sketch pad. There are many videos that show step by step how to draw pictures and I would love to incorporate that into my everyday teaching.
Providing my students with sketch pads will give them the opportunity to share their creativity and create a portfolio of their drawings throughout the year.
I plan to have my students draw weekly sketches and at the end of the year they can take the sketch pad home to show their parents what they have created. Many students that struggle in core content subjects flourish in art. This project will provide my first graders the opportunity to shine in a different way.
