This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

To empower K-5 students to sketch, design, and tinker with their creations, a variety of materials—such as pencils, cotton balls, cardstock, construction paper, baby wipes, twinkle lights, and more—are essential. These open-ended supplies support every stage of the creative process:

Pencils and paper (cardstock, construction paper): Provide the foundation for sketching ideas, drafting designs, and planning projects, helping students develop fine motor skills and pre-writing abilities.

Cotton balls and other tactile materials: These materials offer opportunities for hands-on building, sorting, and crafting, which foster creativity, problem-solving, and sensory exploration.

Baby wipes: Ensure easy cleanup, supporting a safe and organized environment for ongoing tinkering and making.

Additional materials: Encourage independence, choice, and imaginative thinking as students combine, construct, and iterate on their creations using a wide range of textures and tools. Not to mention that some of these materials will have a direct connection to unit-focused lessons.

These resources transform the classroom into a dynamic makerspace where students can invent, explore, and bring their ideas to life, building not only projects, but also confidence, collaboration, and critical thinking skills
