This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are amazing. We are a high poverty urban school. Many of my students are first-generation Americans. The students are talented and love to learn and create. Their parents are unusually supportive, participating however they can.
Although my students would be considered economically disadvantaged, they are some of the greatest kids I have ever taught.
I want to give them so much, but I am limited by the minuscule budget that my school has budgeted for art supplies.
These students are so deserving of a quality art education. Who knows what these children could achieve given the proper tools to support them?
My Project
My students love to draw and paint. These days as they are cooped up in their apartments, it is critical to provide them with activities that allow them to express their emotions. Drawing is a fantastic outlet for them and having decent paper to work with will make stepping away from the screen even more exciting.
In these crazy times, we all know that ART HEALS so I am asking for sketch pad kits for my students so that they can draw and paint at home.
I am also asking for metallic sharpies to help them to jazz up and personalize their sketchpad covers.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
