This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
For this proposal, I am requesting personal sketchbooks for my incoming students. These would be part of a welcoming package into the art room to excite and ease the transition back to in-person learning. Providing each student with a personal artbook makes my art students feel important and cared for. They tend to be inspired to create, brainstorm, and write when they have a high-quality sketchbook or journal. When my students receive special materials from DonorsChoose donors, they are truly moved and demonstrate gratitude by appreciating the product and desire to create to honor the donors. Their sketchbooks will be used daily in the art room, but kiddos will be encouraged to enjoy the books at home. I allow my students privacy and give them space to use the books for personal growth and artistic journey. Journaling is a natural relaxation technique, not only creating calm moments in the art studio, but a lifetime mental health strategy for my kiddos
