Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are the most engaged when there are visual examples and manipulatives to supplement their learning. I have had great success with models in the past, such as the heart model purchased in my last project. Students asked me about the various internal structures, such as the papillary muscles and chordae tendineae. I know that a skeleton will spark similar curiosity and questions for my students.
I teach many students who are in their first years of learning English and a skeleton is a great universal way to showcase the different parts of the body.
I find that my students love to learn about how science is applicable to their daily lives, so units like genetics are usually very interesting to them. Having a skeleton will allow me to showcase to them the composition of their body in not only bones, but muscles too! This skeleton has labeled muscle origins and insertions, so students will get a realistic view of the vast intricacy that is the musculoskeletal system. I am excited to teach them about this fundamental section of the human body.
