My students need 4 copies of 8 Sharon Creech books. My children (60 of them) are trying hard to enjoy reading. It is hard for them to read books that are old, falling apart, and not interesting to them. They love Sharon Creech. I hope that getting better books into their hands may bring out the love of reading. I hope to inspire them and show that people do care - that a stranger can help in their academic success.
I teach sixty sixth graders that have lost the desire and or never had it to begin with to read. Many are faced with hard situations at home.
My students loved my read aloud of "Bloomability" by Sharon Creech. It seemed to have sparked an interest in reading. They want to read her other books.
I need to have four copies of various Sharon Creech's books in order to put my students into book clubs. I believe that they are making connections with the characters in her books. I feel because of these connections to the characters, they will be able to make connections to books that may, I hope last a lifetime.
When you place these books into the children's hands, they will realize that they are not alone in this world. That a complete stranger can care, help, and make a difference in a positive way towards their lives.
