Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a bilingual teacher in my elementary school, meaning my homeroom consists of a majority of students whose first language was not English. Last year alone, there were nine languages spoken in my classroom. The diversity found in my school is astounding, and I believe it is so beneficial for my students to be exposed to other cultures and backgrounds.
My school has seen a growing enrollment of newcomer and immigrant children.
In my second grade class, I have a small amount of newcomer students. I am so excited to see their growth throughout this school year and watch them bloom in their learning and development.
My Project
The chromebooks would be an extraordinary addition to our second grade classroom. This would allow for students to further their knowledge with technology, and be able to benefit from all the learning that can be gained through the chromebooks. They can also be used as centers during our math and reading blocks with the use of websites such as MobyMax, RazKids, and Brain Pop. My classroom has a large population of English Language Learners. These chromebooks can serve as a way to better communicate and teach students whom do not speak English fluently through the use of translation, and read alouds.
My hope is for my students to become more proficient in technology and use the chromebooks as an important resource for their learning, ELL and General Ed students alike.
Many students still do not have access to this kind of technology at home. Having a chance to use these kinds of tools is imperative in today's world of learning. I want to do what I can to ensure my students are given the same chance in exploring technology as others.
