I teach first grade students in a rural area that doesn't receive funding like the schools that are located closer to town. My students come from low-income families who struggle to provide for the basic daily needs of their children.
I teach young learners who are like sponges ready for knowledge!
This age group is learning so much so fast that it's a job in itself just to keep up.
My Project
My class is set up using flexible seating. I have students that sit on the floor for the majority of the day during class instruction. These FlexSpace chairs will help to support their backs when they are working on assignments.
I have created a space that is child friendly and work appropriate for young learners.
They have to ability to move around the room and find a space that enables then to focus and learn the best way possible for them. They enjoy the freedom to control where they learn each day.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
