Sitting to Scientifically Inquire in Nature's Classroom
Help me give my students outdoor sitting areas to create safe science and nature inquiry spaces.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are newcomers who are just starting to learn English. They are excited to learn through science inquiry, especially climate resiliency, environmental stewardship, and gardening. They are learning academic English while learning outdoors. They deserve to be outdoors more but it is difficult without a space to sit down.
Picnic tables will afford my students with space to take observations, write notes, and discuss scientific topics while outdoors.
Currently, students do not have a place to gather to listen to a story about nature, or to easily use a hand lens to study a rock, or to discuss their animal and weather observations. By having access to picnic tables, students will be able to focus their learning by having a gathering spot, plus a hard surface for analyzing specimens, like leaves, rocks, worms, flower petals, and more. This will foster a deeper appreciation for nature, inspire environmental stewardship, and help them become advocates for climate resiliency.
The picnic tables will allow our students to internalize scientific information through a hands on, inquiry approach, while being outside in nature. With your support we can transform the outdoors into a learning space for our students.
