My Project

I teach a great bunch of preschoolers who have all been diagnosed with autism. We are creating a house area to encourage spontaneous speech in the students. We are creating a homelike area in the room to help teach familiar words to our students.

We know that pretend play increases development.

By creating an area similar to the home environment, we hope to increase the students' vocabulary. Students learn more when items are familiar to them. When my students mainstream into regular classrooms, the most popular play area is the house area. We are trying to create a similar area in our classroom.
