Sitting Pretty in Room 129!

My project needs a rug to cover the nasty carpet that has seen 30 years of first graders spilling things upon it.

I have the sweetest, most needy children you will ever meet. I teach first grade in an inner city school that has a population that is highly transient. 91% of our children receive free lunch. The families are searching for stability but can't seem to find it. I want to provide their children with a sense of home that they do not always have. I want them to have a comfortable clean place to spend at least 1/2 of their school time enjoying. These children need something in their lives to give them pride and comfort. Most of them live in rundown rowhouses with little furniture and crowded conditions. Help us make a difference by adding some color, comfort and pride to their lives.

My project needs a center area for my children to meet at least 5 times a day. They have to sit on the floor and be close to the teacher. Our school was built in 1979 and has the nastiest carpet I have ever seen on all its floors. There are huge stain from years of spilled materials and the children don't like to sit on it. I have tried bringing in small carpets from the carpet supply houses but they always fray and fall apart.

The carpet would serve a dual purpose in providing useful information for the children in the form of the alphabet and the numbers plus add a learning center to our already overcrowded room. The children would have an attractive learning space and a carpet to meet on every day. I think this will also instill in them a sense of pride that they have a beautiful, clean, new carpet that they use for different purposes. They would also enjoy that it covers most of the nasty areas we have to look at daily.

Make my children's lives better by helping us in our quest for adequate seating by supplying us with a multipurpose rug that will light up their world for at least 6 hours a day.
