My Students
The school where I work is an urban school with a high poverty rate. Students are often eager to learn, but come to school lacking basic social, emotional, and academic skills. One of the biggest challenges as an educator is meeting students where they are, and making the most of our time together to make the greatest gains. Parents are often willing to help, and technology is a fun and engaging way to reach parents and students.
My students would love to have chair pockets to store their classroom supplies and materials.
My students love to have a neat and clean place to work during the school day. Students are not always required to work at their tables, but often need to gather supplies and move to a work station or small group and chair pockets are the perfect thing to hold the needed supplies.
My Project
Using chair pockets in our classroom will help students be responsible for their own supplies as well as keep our room neat and organized. The students often have materials they need the day and this will be a safe place to store these things since our classroom has tables. Students often bring materials and books for a guided math or reading group and having the chair pockets will keep the materials organized and readily available, so we are not loosing instructional time. Also, using chair pockets is a place for students to store materials, i.e. writer's notebooks, math journal, and other supplies we use throughout the day.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
