My students need seating choices so that they can focus on the lesson being taught vs. wiggling around in uncomfortable hard seats. Beanbags give them comfort, while other choices may allow them movement they may need.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are the beautiful diverse world you hope to see when you become a teacher. The are the sweet innocent faces ready to soak in their education.
I work at a Title 1 school, meaning that our students come from an array of socioeconomic backgrounds, with a majority of them qualifying for free and reduced lunch.
As first graders we have an extreme amount of natural wiggles, but at times my students also may have outside factors that make concentrating on school difficult. I want to do everything I can to help them focus on their learning when they are with me.
My Project
Giving the children the opportunity to choose where they sit makes them more invested in their learning. They feel they have a say in their education and it empowers them to make healthy choices in all areas that will allow them to be successful.
Flexible seating in first grade allows students to begin reflecting on what works best for them in their education.
What type of environment do they learn best under? What friends do they work best next to? I want to give them an opportunity to make these decisions in an environment that automatically cuts down on behaviors and increases student engagement.
