My Students
We are an urban, high needs elementary school. We have a large free-lunch population and have a large percentage of learners with special needs.
We are an ICT class with a mix of general education and special education students.
We service all of our students with the same energy and intensity, but some students require additional supports and that is what we aim to provide. We scaffold every lesson so there is an entry point for each child, and try to provide the types of physical and emotional supports so our special students can succeed.
My Project
We have been using flex seating in our class for the last two years and it has made all of the difference in students attitudes and ability to focus. For students with special learning needs, the ability to move their body as needed is an extra bonus.
We will use the zenergy ball, floor chairs, and community tables to help young bodies learn more willingly.
We do a lot of project-based learning and the flex seats allow for a more collaborative work environment. Students can choose to work in various parts of the room allowing them to be in control of how they are most comfortable. Having a variety of seating options opens up a plethora of options for learning.
