My students need 30 stackable stools, to use when they are drumming or playing guitars.

My Students
One of the first things that you notice, when you walk into the music room, are the assortment of beautiful drums, thanks to the generosity of DonorsChoose and other grants. The other thing you will notice is that there is very little furniture in the room, so that the students can move!
I am the general music teacher for approximately 530 students in grades k-5.
Our school was built in 1931 and is a beautiful building. I see every student for 45 minutes, once a week, for general music. Our school is a Title I school, so we have approximately 46% of our students who qualify for free or reduced lunch, and approximately 10% of our students who are homeless. Many of these students live in old motels with their families. We also have a growing population of students for whom English is not their first language, so our school is quite diverse!
For the majority of my students, their weekly music class is the only time when they have access to "real instruments," so I have worked very hard, writing grants, to ensure that every instrument both looks and sounds beautiful. We have drums, xylophones, guitars, steel drums as well as all the usual small rhythm instruments.
My philosophy of music education is that the students should be MAKING music every week!
My Project
I have spent the past 14 years writing grants to acquire instruments, but recently, it occurred to me that my students come in all sizes, and having a set of stackable stools in the music room would make playing both the large drums and the guitars more comfortable for them. The music room is not a huge space, and in order to give the students room to move freely, we do not have very much furniture at all. Since these stools are stackable, it would be very easy to keep them in a corner of the room and have the students bring them out when we are going to use them.
These stools also come in a rainbow of colors, which will be a pretty decorative touch to the room.
My students love coming to music class already!
Within a single class period, they know that they will sing, dance, and make music with an instrument. Having stools to sit on, when they are playing the large conga drums, or the guitars, will mean that they can be more comfortable and focus on making beautiful music with their instruments.
We are truly grateful for the generosity of previous DonorsChoose donors who have made wonderful instruments possible. Thank you for your support of music!
