Wiggly and excited - two words that best describe my students! Typical chairs just don't cut it for us! My students need therapeutic ball chairs so they can get proper sensory input and stay seated for work and group time.
Our school is home to about 300 students in a high poverty, inner city neighborhood.
Despite the challenges that my students face regarding resources, money, violence, and care, they are incredibly resilient. The seven students that learn in my classroom all have low incidence disabilities such as Autism Spectrum Disorders, epilepsy, and Down Syndrome. Their vivacious personalities, zest for life, desire to learn, and boldness are a huge part of our school culture. They do not let developmental delays or poverty get in the way of their learning. I truly LOVE my job as their teacher and cannot imagine teaching a different group of children.
My Project
Therapeutic ball chairs are very unique tools that will suit my seven wiggly students. They are not your standard classroom chair! They are created by taking typical chairs and removing the seat. In its place, an exercise ball is inserted. This helps children to bounce and move while still sitting. Additionally, it helps with posture. These chairs will relieve some of the extra energy that is always apparent in my little guys!
"If they can't learn the way you teach, teach in the way they can learn." These therapeutic ball chairs will help us to do just that.
Thank you for your consideration in opening doors and opportunities for my seven students.
