My Students

My students are outgoing, hardworking, motivated and dedicated to education. They are from a small rural community that is like family.

Agriculture and Environmental Science are a large part of their everyday lives.

My agriculture science classes are a blend of student in different educational levels and age ranges. The mass of the student body is from lower income families and are on free or reduced lunch program. They are hands on learners at love to read, learn, question and explore.

My Project

At the beginning of this school year, a few of the teachers at our small, rural high school had a dream: To build an outdoor space where students could actively learn about nature by being out in nature. Two of the teachers made small projects on Donors Choose to get the raised beds and plants needed to start the endeavor, but much is still needed to make the dream of a true outdoor classroom a reality.

We are asking for four convertible benches that can become two picnic tables as areas for our students to sit on while in the outdoor classroom.

The benches are made of powder-coated steel and composite wood, so they should withstand Midwestern weather. The back of the benches convert to a picnic table top, and they become a full picnic table when two of them are placed together. This is important because the students will be able to sit on the benches for classes when a table is not needed, or can convert them into tables to have a stable work surface. Students can choose to sit at either a bench or picnic table, in essence creating flex seating in an outdoor space!
