Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are enthusiastic, eager, and self-driven young adults. More than 75% of them are low-income, and more than 80% are learning English as a second language. They never let anything get in the way of their education. They are fully engaged in personalized learning and are excited to further our flexible seating environment. They are continually challenged in their daily lives, and I hope to give them a safe and comfortable learning space. We are very excited to be involved with LEAP Innovations, and participating in the LEAP Personalized Learning Challenge!
Students are in need for a classroom that promotes the most comfortable learning environment. The LEAP Personalized Learning Challenge has inspired various seating arrangements that would promote collaborative learning, a harmonious social-emotional environment, as well as motivational workplace for all students.
All students deserve to have the environment that they spend hours working, be an environment that is not only comfortable, but tailored to their own individual needs. These real-life based seating environment will allow for differentiated grouping, as well as allowing students to collaborate more and build on their teamwork skills.
In Their Own Words
The idea is to transform our classroom to create real-life seating options that we will encounter in our further education and careers. It will allow us to encompass various team building skills and collaboration, but also allow us to see what we prefer. The differentiation will be able to cover a wide variety of our needs, and allow us to be in the most calming environment, which is the best setting for our own learning.
We hope to be able to share these ideas of personalized seating with various grade levels, and groups of students. Our school is a LEAP Innovation school, and we will be able to showcase our learning and be leaders in our school for other grades. We will be sharing our projects and class spaces with others. We are also able to take charge of our own leadership in our individual learning.
This project has a great importance to our school community, because it centers around our individual needs. This will allow us to participate fully in the new idea of flexible seating. This will help us to develop our self-awareness of our own needs, especially as we develop into adulthood, college, and careers!
